Ni Fan grew up in a musical family in Peking, China. She had her first piano lesson aged four, and also studied percussion from the age of ten.

From 2001-2007, she was a junior student at the Central Conservatory of Music in Peking. Under Li Biao, she went on to complete her bachelor’s degree early with distinction. In 2010, Ni Fan continued her studies at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin, gaining a master’s degree and performance diploma also with distinction. Lukas Böhm studied at the Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin and with the Berlin Philharmonic as a scholar of the Karajan Academy.

He has won international awards at the Concours International de Timbales in France and the Italy Percussion Competition. Along with his duo partner Ni Fan, he won first prize at the Universal Marimba Competition in Belgium in 2017 and first prize with two further special awards at the 19th OSAKA International Music Competition in Japan in 2018.
